History
Brook Crompton became part of Brook Hansen, following the acquisition
of Hawker Siddeley by BTR in 1993, along with other internationally
well-known names in electromechanical drives and controls including
gear manufacturers Hansen Transmissions, Prager and Stephan Werke.
Following the merger of BTR and Siebe in 1999, Brook Hansen was
split into motors and gear companies. The gear companies were
aligned with the Rexnord group and the electric motors companies
became known as Invensys Brook Crompton.
We are now part of the Lindeteves-Jacoberg
Group and are once more known as Brook Crompton.
Brook Crompton is made up of many well known
names including Brook Motors, Crompton Parkinson, Newman, Electrodrives,
Bull Electric and Hawker Siddeley Electric Motors. Recent additions
to the group include Polish motor manufacturer Tamel, and Chinese
motor manufacturer, Dalian Erdianji.
Combined, these companies posses a wealth of
experience. For example, Colonel Crompton, a pioneer in the development
of dc motors formed R.E.B. Crompton & Co in 1878. Brook Motors
Ltd was formed by Ernest Brook at the turn of the century and
F & A.W Parkinson started manufacturing on the Guiseley site
in 1913.
Electrodrives also has some illustrious
forebears including Metropolitan Vickers Electrical Company Ltd
and British Thomson Houston Ltd which, together with several other
companies, were grouped together under the ownership of the British
General Electric Company. Electrodrives, then know as GEC Electromotors
Ltd, was part of this company.
